Description

Oregon Secretary of State Barbara Roberts spoke to the Coalition in Oregon for Parent Education (COPE) Wagonwheel Conference on March 10, 1989, on "Acceptance and Inclusion of Disabled Children." Roberts began her political career as a lobbyist for the educational rights of disabled children after her autistic son was denied access to public school. The fight to secure and protect the right to education for children of all abilities was an effort that Roberts continued while serving in public office in Oregon and throughout her civic life. This speech, she noted, is of particular importance in her personal history.
