Verdell Burdine Rutherford was an active member of the Culture Club, a Portland, Oregon African American women’s community organization, founded in 1924 and remaining active through the 1970s. In addition to its own activities and initiatives, the Culture Club also worked with other community organizations such as the Urban League and with regional and national women’s clubs including the Oregon Association and the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs.
