Abstract

In this article, I explore the current energy system in Colombia, the conflicting role of hydroelectricity, the hidden social and environmental costs of energy, and the prospects of various renewable energy sources. I conclude by highlighting the opportunities that renewable energies hold and propose several policies that Colombia could take up to encourage the development of the renewable energy sector.
