Overall, this manuscript is very well done. The figures are very clean and the manuscript writing is thorough. I see no major errors that require extensive revision. I do have a few suggestions/questions that might be helpful for improving the manuscript: -Did you perform any statistics? What was the threshold for determining which category the treatment of a compound fell into, if any? -I suggest avoiding use of informal language that can be ambiguous, such as “removes the brakes on the immune system”. Metaphorical comparisons can be appropriate as long as it’s clear as to what is being compared. For example, clarify what the “brakes” are referring to. -It is usually expected in a publication to list out the specific ingredients and concentrations for all solutions used in the research paper when possible. For example, the growth media. -I suggest more clearly defining the possible outcomes of each compound treatment (antagonistic, additive, synergistic, no effect) in a table. Right now, you have a very nice definition of the outcomes in Figure 1, but it would be helpful for the reader to refer back to a table as they are reading through and seeing the effects of the compounds.
