Transcript 0:00 my freshman year I was at lobster fest 0:03 which is Geneva colleges um event for 0:07 people to join clubs see this club in 0:10 the corner of the field and it's a 0:12 knitting club and I was like hey yeah 0:15 why not I was looking for clubs to join 0:18 so seemed kind of a no-brainer I first 0:22 got interested in the name club when I 0:23 was I was actually in Sunderland hall 0:26 which is my residence hall and I walked 0:29 out because I had about 15 minutes to 0:31 kill and I was going to hang out in the 0:32 lobby um and the knitting club was out 0:35 there my best friend actually signed me 0:37 up for for the club and I was like dude 0:40 I'm never I'm never going to do this and 0:42 one day I decided okay I guess I'll go 0:45 so I went and I like fell in love with 0:47 it 0:55 I like that it brings the students 0:58 together across disciplines I like that 1:01 it's a time to take a break from 1:03 studying and do something productive 1:05 with our hands that is different than 1:08 the studying that we all do in a regular 1:10 basis we are small in size to the extent 1:14 of people who come regularly but at the 1:16 same time we still have people who 1:18 trickle in every once in a while because 1:21 I think it allows the club members to 1:23 really connect and bond with each other 1:25 it gives them a stronger feeling of 1:28 camaraderie I think you bounce ideas off 1:31 of other people more experienced 1:34 knitters less experienced knitters you 1:36 learn better ways to do things like now 1:39 I know how to cast on for a sock but 1:43 when that's going on you're motivated to 1:46 knit more it's just a great connection 1:48 to have with students I really enjoy 1:51 knitting so much in my life and I'm able 1:53 am glad that I'm able to you know teach 1:57 students to knit here then in club dr. 2:01 tootin had this idea of putting a hat on 2:03 the clock tower and so Bell had the idea 2:05 and then the knitting club had squares 2:07 left over from a yarn bombing project 2:09 that I don't think ever actually got 2:11 completed that started before I was 2:14 co-chair of the bidding club I really 2:16 thought it was cool as it was on the 2:19 clock tower where every what everyone is 2:21 passing by it every day and it is just 2:26 and it just brings out awareness that 2:28 the knitting club is there like I feel 2:29 like people know there's a knitting club 2:30 they're just like oh it's not really you 2:33 know anything but like we're actually 2:35 doing stuff we're actually here I feel 2:37 like that's just a perfect kind of a 2:39 representation of juniata grow not 2:42 everybody but most people here are kind 2:44 of goofy and well 2:47 but in a good way it was very visible 2:51 for everybody to see and just kind of 2:53 represented the coming of winter and you 2:57 know kind of community spirit that I 2:59 think that knitting club is all about it 3:01 was just it was just a cool thing that 3:03 the school let us do like we we were 3:06 able to you know show our school spirit 3:10 and and let them know that you know we 3:13 do want to do projects that bring us 3:16 together um i would encourage people to 3:19 join because a get to learn how to knit 3:21 you can make awesome things that you get 3:24 to meet new people and meeting new 3:26 people like in any any scenario 3:28 interesting people niti is surrounded by 3:31 interesting people um and meaning those 3:34 people is definitely worth it ever I've 3:36 never met a knitter I don't like I don't 3:37 think it exists it may actually be an 3:40 oxymoron so I guess it just attracts 3:43 wonderful people or knitting makes you a 3:46 better person I have no idea but I 3:49 definitely have been changed by the 3:51 relationships that I've made through 3:54 knitting if you are ever considering 3:57 joining a knitting club you would be 4:00 stupid not to it is fun it is enjoyable 4:04 and you will succeed
