Description

Dear Campus Community,

I hope that you will take a few minutes out of your busy day to watch my welcome message. It will serve as my Convocation remarks. In it, I am speaking from the heart about what I see as the highest priorities and the richest opportunities in the year to come.

Please join me in recognizing and honoring faculty promoted for the 2022/2023 academic year. Also, we are celebrating the 2022 Faculty and Staff Excellence Awards, representing the best of Portland State and the ongoing excellence of PSU faculty and academic professionals for their research, scholarship, service, and dedication to our students and our academy.

  • Chris Monsere, associate dean for academic affairs in the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science and a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, our Branford Price Millar Award winner for excellence in scholarship, instruction, university service and public service.
  • Sergio Palleroni, professor and director of the Center for Public Interest Design, our George C. Hoffmann Award winner, recognized for distinguished contributions to PSU in the areas of instruction, university service, and scholarship which are done in the spirit of humanism, civility, and collegiality, with particular dedication to students.
  • Elisa Loftis, library faculty and subject liaison to the College of Art + Design, Film Studies, and the World Languages and Literature departments, who is recognized with the Kenneth W. and Elsie W. Butler Award for Library Faculty Service to students, faculty and the community. Courtney Shiroma, formerly the executive director of University Housing & Residence Life, who was honored with the Mary H. Cumpston Award for Service to Students.
  • Theresa Robbins Dudeck, acting instructor, facilitator of workshops for the Office of Academic Innovation, co-director of the Equity Theater Project, and facilitator of Applied Improvisation for Communication workshops with faculty and students from Applied Linguistics, Speech and Hearing Sciences, and World Languages and Literature, recognized with an Academic Excellence Award for Adjunct Faculty.
  • Chris Cartwright, instructor in the Department of International and Global Studies and science editor for the Society for Intercultural Education, Training, and Research-USA (SIETAR-USA) newsletter, recognized with an Academic Excellence Award for Adjunct Faculty.

Sincerely,
Stephen Percy, PSU President
