Abstract
Donald Leu was interviewed on October 27, 2000, by Alma Bingham, Steve Brannan, Ulrich Hardt, Maxine Thomas, and Barbara Wiegele.
Description
This interview is one of a series conducted by the School of Education History Preservation and Celebration Committee.
The committee was organized among Education faculty and staff by Dr. Ulrich Hardt, Education professor and associate dean, during his service as director of special projects for the School. The committee developed projects honoring the history of Education at PSU, including a record of significant accomplishments and milestones, a deans’ photo gallery, and this oral history project of interviews with past administrators, professors, and staff.
Dr. Hardt conducted some of the interviews along with committee members Alma Bingham, Steve Brannan, Maxine Thomas, and Barbara Wiegele. Hardt and Wiegele were also interview subjects along with Robert Everhart, Errett Hummel, Hal Jorgensen, Donald Leu, Ron Petrie, George Timmons, and David Willis. The interviews were recorded during the years 1999-2001 and describe the progress of PSU’s School of Education from its beginnings as an academic division without a dean to its organization as a School offering doctoral degrees in Education.

Biographical
Donald Leu (1923-2002) served as Dean of the School of Education at Portland State from 1980-86, part of a lifelong career in education administration and planning in higher education, public school districts, and government.
