On November 8, 2012, Portland State University Library was delighted to host a reception to celebrate the donation of the Verdell A. Burdine and Otto G. Rutherford Family Collection to the Library's Special Collections and to view the exhibit curated from the collection, "Say We Are Here: Culture, Community and Activism across Four Generations of Black Oregonians."

Speakers at the reception including Charlotte Rutherford, daughter of Verdell and Otto, and donor of the collection; Dr. Darrell Millner, Professor of Black Studies at Portland State; John Henley, collection appraiser; Dr. Patricia Schechter, Professor of History at Portland State, and Cris Paschild, Head of Special Collections and University Archivist with the Portland State Library.
