Portland State University Commencement Address
Barbara Roberts, Oregon's 34th Governor, spoke to graduates at the Portland State University commencement ceremony on June 16, 2007. She was introduced by former PSU President Daniel Bernstine. Using historical examples of personal courage, including moments in her own political career, she enthusiastically encouraged the class of 2007 to act boldly according to principle, with the assurance that the rewards of courageous individual actions are ultimately shared by all of society. "If your cause is just, and if you are determined enough--and sometimes, if you can be brave enough--one person can make a difference."
