Abstract

This paper analyzes the wearable technology industry and the impact made on sports. A case study is performed on Nike’s wearable technologies and Nike’s impact on both the future of sports and the wearable industry.

The paper starts with an introduction to wearable technology and a history of wearables. Then an overview of Nike is given. A literature review of the main papers used in this paper is given. Nike’s methodology for wearable technology is covered. The next section describes Nike’s evolution of wearable devices that have propelled it from a retail clothing and shoe company to an apparel technology. This is followed by the performance of a SWOT analysis and a competitive landscape analysis. Then the paper examines Nike’s marketing strategy to remain competitive and an industry leader. Finally, Nike’s continued impact on sports with wearable technology is described and a recommendation by the authors is given on the outlook of wearable technology and its impact on the future of sports.
