Description

When creating open materials such as literature textbooks, it is often desirable and necessary to incorporate the specific work of other authors. Often this work is under copyright protection, and permission to reproduce the work with an open license may not be possible. However, if the material already exists freely online, such as in an online literary journal, it may be possible to simply create open wrap-around materials while connecting students to the source text via embedded links to the external websites.

In this presentation, participants will be given a walk-through of an interactive website that presents a short-story anthology for students of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) which has been prepared in this manner, pointing out both highlights/caveats of its preparation as well as its use in the classroom.
