Carla Mann creates choreography for the stage, alternative sites, installations, and video. She has been a Professor of Dance at Reed College since 1995 and performs with Minh Tran & Company.

Biographical

Carla Mann is an associate Artistic Director of Heidi Duckler Dance Theatre/Northwest, a site-specific performance company. Her works have included site-specific performances in a cardboard warehouse and in the Hoyt Arboretum in Portland. Her choreographic work has been supported by grants from the Oregon Arts Commission, the Regional Arts and Culture Council, and the Dance Coalition of Oregon, and presented by a number of organizations including the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA), Artquake, Conduit Dance, and the Kunming Youth Art School in Kunming, China.

She earned a BA in Music from Reed College and a master’s degree in Dance and Movement from Wesleyan University.

Mann has performed with Minh Tran & Company, Oslund + Co/Dance, tEEth, Troika Ranch, Imago Theatre, Dance Gatherer, and others. She has served on the Regional Arts and Culture Council, the Oregon Arts Commission, and as an advisor to the National Dance Project.

She has been a Professor of Dance at Reed College since 1995, and currently dances with Minh Tran & Company.

Interviewer Eric Nordstrom is a dance performer, filmmaker and professor. As a director and editor, his interests focus on the intersection of dance, improvisation, documentary, and film. His past and current film work features such prominent dancers and scholars as Ann Cooper Albright and Simone Forti. In Seattle, he has performed with Karen Nelson, and in Portland, Oregon, was a core company member with Oslund+Company. Eric has taught contemporary technique, contact improvisation, and dance film courses in colleges and festivals throughout the U.S., including Macalester College, Kenyon College, Reed College, Portland State University, Seattle Festival of Dance Improvisation, Conduit Dance, and The Ohio State University, where he earned his Master of Fine Arts. He is on faculty at Lewis and Clark College.
