This IBPI webinar is part of a project sponsored by FHWA to study best practices in pedestrian traffic monitoring.
Portland State University is working with ICF International and Sprinkle Consulting on a contract to the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration to advise them on potential improvements to the Traffic Monitoring Guide specific to pedestrian travel.
The Q&A, available in the Additional Files, contains questions that were submitted during the webinar and the answers to them, which were not included in the broadcast due to time constraints.
Biographical
David Jones of the Federal Highway Administration will introduce the topic and provide FHWA's perspective on pedestrian travel monitoring.
Shawn Turner of the Texas Transportation Institute, primary author of the Traffic Monitoring Guide’s Chapter 4 on non-motorized traffic monitoring, will give background and basics of pedestrian counting.
Scott Brady, Manager of Travel Monitoring at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission in the Philadelphia area will describe his agency’s extensive pedestrian count program.
Krista Nordback, TREC research associate and Portland State University researcher, will describe the ongoing efforts at Portland State to keep pedestrian and bicycle counts with the PORTAL database.
Theo Petritsch of Sprinkle Consulting will discuss data processing methods for short duration counts, including factoring.
