The article profiles American figurative painter R.B. Kitaj. Spending much of his life in England, he was known for his combative egoism and fierce embrace of Jewish identity. Other noted topics including his memoir "Confessions of an Old Jewish Painter," how he was born to Jewish parents in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and his depictions of his masculinity in his work.
