Abstract
The creation and utilization of lessons learned comments in the Corps of Engineers should be an integral part of its knowledge management system. To date, however, no database has been effective in providing a storage system that encourages employee contribution and utilization. Current and future challenges to the Corps of Engineers in the area of preservation of institutional knowledge are identified. The utility of lessons learned comments with respect to the type of information they contain and recommendations for features of a lessons learned storage and search system, as well as procedures for their utilization by Corps of Engineers employees, are discussed.
