Abstract
Microsoft has become the world's richest software company, although it has no leading product in any important category barring operating systems. Today nearly half of the world's total PC software revenue now goes directly to Microsoft. Some of Microsoft's control over computing, at all levels, is obvious. The paper discusses the strategies, policies and management of Microsoft that made it so prominent. It also discusses the challenges that Microsoft faces.
