Abstract
It is likely that the two men who founded companies which would become German automotive giants and in unison, capture nearly thirty percent of the world's automotive market share ever shook hands. Though Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz were born only sixty miles apart in southern Germany, the two automotive innovators had very different views and approaches to the industry. The on factor they did have in common, both were fascinated by mechanics and drawn into the world of machine powered transportation.
