Abstract
Wireless technology is rapidly expanding into many different areas that are being applied to new applications on a daily basis. Wireless connectivity has revolutionized personal communications and it is paving its path into enterprises. There is an increase in the need for people to communicate with each other anywhere, anytime. New applications such as internet services and wireless multimedia have changed the way we communicate. Wireless has shifted from luxury into a commodity arena. The power of wireless has been demonstrated by providing different types of wireless connectivity such as wireless fidelity (WiFi), Third generation GSM (3G), Satellite, Bluetooth, etc. Whether it is global or local connectivity there is a wireless solution that can establish that. There have been two major paths that wireless technology has been divided into. One of them is cellular communications that concentrates on providing voice services and other is wireless data transfer that concentrates on providing wireless data transfer. In the recent years these two paths have combined and in the future we are very likely to see a wireless standard that would encompass both wireless data and voice. Currently there are multiple solutions within the different wireless technologies and it will take a couple years until some of them start to differentiate and become a standard. It is up to the wireless technology leaders and the market to determine the winner.
