Abstract
Supply-chain management is one of the fastest growing areas of management science today. By the year 2004, the total market size for supply-chain management services and applications is estimated to reach $180 billion [1]. The purpose of this report is to provide a basic understanding of this important area of management science. As we began our study, we wanted to answer a number of questions including: Why is there so much interest in supply-chain management? Why are companies pouring resources into supply chain management services and applications? What do they hope to gain from their efforts? Is this an area of management science that business students should be aware of and knowledgeable about? The information provided in this report will help to answer these questions and more.
