Abstract
Southeast Asian countries have experienced very fast economic growth in the last two decades. Much of this growth has been seen within the countries that make up the union known as Association of South East Asian Nations, ASEAN. In considering the Strategic and Policy Issues (S&PI) which affect Southeast Asia, this paper will focus on ASEAN countries. The research was conducted from the perspective of a high-tech U.S. company considering initial or expanded investments in Southeast Asia. The paper includes a brief history of ASEAN, it's role in the world economy, the current Asian Economic Crisis, as well as its social and political characteristics that make it an attractive investment destination for US companies.
