Abstract
This paper evaluates the rationale behind the government investment and provides an analysis of the failure of companies attempting to supply this market. Specifically, Optical Imaging Systems (OIS) is looked at, as it initially appeared to be the one path for success. Lessons learned form the government investment are provided as well as the outlook on the future of the one remaining domestic AMLCD manufacturer, Planar.
