Abstract
Retention rates among African American students at Institutions of Higher Education remain relatively low. A large amount of research has been developed over the last three decades in order to discover why this is happening and what Colleges and Universities can do to stop it. Research breaks this idea down into different variables that make up a students' life, even they get to college. Things like marital status, race, gender, finances, part-time, commuter, etc. have been evaluated in different studies to examine their impact on student retention.
