Abstract
Introduction:
In our everyday life we encounter DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technologies in every ten minutes. As the technology reaches maturity it seems to be showing more potential than ever before. In this report, in the beginning, the application areas will be briefly introduced. In addition, major companies, which produce DSP chips, and their strategies will be considered. Then, DSP Engine technologies that are involved in typical DSP applications will be introduced. These technologies will include DSP processors, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA), and custom ICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits and DSP Cores). The latest developments in these technologies will be given. Also application development issues will be examined, especially in Software. Finally the need for the application development environment will be discussed.
