Abstract
This paper investigates project management tools and methodologies utilized in two different industries, health care and truck manufacturing. Providence Health and Services and Daimler Trucks North America were the focus of this study. First, an indepth analysis of the implemented project management tools and methodologies for each company was conducted. Second, four personal interviews with project managers from the above mentioned companies were conducted to gather pertinent information, which was used in this paper to address the main goals of the study. The two companies where compared on eleven outcome measures: project manager skills, project selection, team formation, conflict resolution, project management methodologies, management challenges, risk management, virtual team management, project management tools, triple constraints, and roadblocks. The collected data were analyzed to finally compare and contrast the two organizations. The results reveal that there are key differences and similarities in project management tools and methodologies applied in the two companies depend on the different industry.
