Abstract
We studied the internal and external motivators affecting engineers. We did a ranking of the most important motivational factors and a comparison between groups of student engineers and experienced engineers. No statistically significant differences were found in how the two groups ranked the factors. Individuals, however, did differ dramatically in what motivated them. The importance of understanding these subtle differences - particularly for supervisors who motivate them -- is stressed
