Abstract

With this research we identified and analyzed factors encountered by American based companies undertaking design projects in a global environment. Our analysis approach was structured around the Daniel Roman project management model which includes the conceptual, formative, operational and termination project stages. Although literature indicates that there are a multiplicity of factors which influence project success, culture, legal, communication, standards and codes are factors consistently mentioned as major areas of concern. Consideration of these factors are given at the various stages defined in Roman's model. Data resources used in the analysis included literature, project manager interviews and author personal experiences.
