Abstract
The strengths and weaknesses of Total Quality Management (TQM), Self-Directed Teams (SDT), Proactive Management (PM), and Management by Objective (MBO) were compared. Personal interviews were conducted with ten project managers in local high-tech companies. The pairwise comparison method showed that TQM is the best technique for the U.S. high-tech companies to gain competitive advantage. The recommendations include the need for top management support and involvement with the implementation of TQM.
