Abstract
The recreational lives of Portland State (PSU) students and faculty will improve when the new $52 million PSU Recreation Center is completed. The plan is to build the new facility on the site where the Portland Center for Advanced Technology is located. Building construction is proposed to start in August of 2007 and is projected to be completed in September 2009 and will include state-of-the-art exercise facilities, aquatics services, a climbing wall, a running track, several courts, exercise studios, student art displays, student-run food businesses, and retail space. The building will also provide space for student clubs, dance, intramural sports, outdoor programs, and wellness classes. The construction plans coincide with a joint effort by PSU, Tri-Met, and the City of Portland to expand the city's light rail system to the PSU campus.
