Engaging Undergraduate Students with Digital Surveillance Workshops
Description
ALA's Code of Ethics states that "We protect each library user's right to privacy and confidentiality." However, efforts to educate our patrons about digital surveillance and how to reduce its impacts are met with feelings of helplessness and low attendance. Our presentation discusses a series of student-facing mini-workshops at Linn-Benton Community College about digital surveillance. We will pay special attention to approaches we took to increase engagement. We will also offer lessons we learned while creating this series.
