Leadership & Organizing for Change: A Quality Improvement Framework for the Bridges Collaborative Care Clinic
Presenter Biography
My name is Malynda Taylor and I am a second-year MPH student pursuing a career in preventive medicine. It became clear that the way to realize my dreams of preventing chronic diseases was through the IHI approach. I have found a lot of joy in adopting the culture and mission of IHI, which supports my core goal of giving honor and respect to those in need. The application of improvement science is evident through this project to develop the QI framework for BCCC. Outside of academia, I enjoy riding horses, recruiting friends for impromptu service projects, and walking in the beautiful Pacific NW.

Abstract
Significant public health problems stemming from health disparities include access to healthcare. The Bridges Collaborative Care Clinic (BCCC) can ameliorate this discrepancy if run smoothly. Unfortunately, services fall through when miscommunications arise, clinic operations are inefficient, or volunteers are unable to attend. A framework was built and updated in the Fall of 2019—as part of the IHI Leadership & Organizing for Change course—to support evaluation for students to identify opportunities for clinic improvement. Students, members of the IHI Open School, and BCCC volunteers are being organized to manage the quality improvement (QI) work in a coordinated and sustained way by implementing the framework of evaluations and goals in order to guide continuous improvement in the clinic by June 2020.
