W.R. Lee and Erastus R. Richardson established the Portland Times in 1918 and its office was located in the Abington Building. Other contributing members were dedicated businessmen and include J.D Emery, William J. McLamore, Dr. James Merriman M.D., William D. Allen (owner of The Golden West Hotel), and George P. Moore. The paper ceased publication five years later but left invaluable proclamations within its pages. One such statement comes from the August 1919 edition: “The Portland Times stands for progressive citizenship, every citizen working hand in hand to make Portland the best city in the world...”
