Anthós Publication Ethics Statement
To ensure transparency at every stage of the publication process, Anthós authors, editors, and reviewers are asked to declare any and all conflicts of interest that might compromise the integrity or credibility of the publication.
Examples of conflicts of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Authorship by/including Editorial Board member(s)
- Personal relationships between author(s) and Editorial Board member(s) that could hinder editorial impartiality
- Collaboration with or funding from advocacy or interest groups related to article’s subject matter
As Anthós is a student-edited journal publishing undergraduate work, certain conflicts of interest are expected and not necessarily disqualifying for the publication process. A common circumstance is that the reviewer of an article is the Portland State faculty member (professor) who assigned the paper in a course which the author was/is enrolled in. This is not considered a conflict of interest under Anthós policy.
Conversely, a clear conflict of interest that would be considered disqualifying for publication is an Anthós editor’s authorship of a submission. Current Anthós editors/Editorial Board members are highly discouraged from submitting to Anthós to avoid any (real or perceived) conflicts of interest and to protect the credibility and integrity of the editorial process.
