Abstract

Book review excerpt:

In 2014, Chima Korieh published a pioneering collection entitled Life Not Worth Living: Nigerian Petitions Reflecting an African Society’s Experiences During World War II (Carolina Academic Press). Life Not Worth Living expertly assembled petitions written by ordinary Nigerians to British officials during World
War II, but the book lacked in-depth analysis of that colonial African society’s responses to imperial war demands. In any case, he used these petitions to
place the civilian population in Nigeria at the intersection of colonial overrule and wartime policies. In his new work, Korieh more fully unearths Nigeria’s
role in World War II.
