Abstract
Feather River is a narrative short film based on my own life that explores layered grief, memory, and return in the aftermath of the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California. The film follows Mike, a man shaped by the childhood loss of his mother and later by the destruction of his hometown, as he moves through displacement, survival, and emotional isolation before returning to the Feather River, where memory and grief begin to surface. Through sparse dialogue, archival material, restrained visual language, and immersive sound design, the film examines how place can hold memory and how the natural world can become part of the process of healing.
