Abstract
This creative thesis presents the original feature-length screenplay Chiaroscuro, a drama that explores themes of trauma, mental health, and changing of a character's perspective. The screenplay examines the aftermath of school gun violence in a small town, using character-driven narrative, dialogue, and visual storytelling to investigate questions of personal identity and familial dysfunction. Inspired by events the writer has personally experienced, the project employs established screenwriting principles while developing an original narrative voice. The accompanying reflection essay examines the screenplay's development, including narrative structure, character arcs, thematic development, and the creative decisions that shaped the work. Together, the screenplay and analysis demonstrate how cinematic storytelling can engage audiences while exploring complex emotional, social, or cultural issues.
