Abstract

A young girl leaves her small town upbringing for the city. A mother seeks her own disappearance in the desert. A childless couple responds creatively to changes in climate, both environmental and intimate. Structured as a continuous stream of stories, Debts is a cross-genre novel-in-progress centered around class, hybrid identities, and connectedness. The stories explore themes of visibility, precarity, and social unrest, collectively signaling an experience of 21st Century embeddedness.
