Abstract
This collection is not just an examination of established behavioral patterns and lived experiences on behalf of the narrator that contribute to a negative affect and outlook on life, but also a push forward. It is an experiment in altering perceptions and circumstances--a subtly optimistic search for something better than tolerable. It is an acknowledgement that even though we are not responsible for all the bad things that happen to us, recognizing the control we do have is important and empowering. The collection uses experimental essay forms and dives into cross-genre practice, from nonfiction to poetry to visual art, in order to look at challenging personal history and inquire about unhelpful paradigms.
