Abstract
Rooted in Deepbone is a collection of poetry that examines generational trauma, childhood abuse, grief, and the ripple effects of post-traumatic stress. What does it look like to heal? To remain wounded? How does a child reconcile the differences between what is said, what is meant, and what goes unspoken? How does an adult? Emerging from the fog of shame and guilt, I leave behind the silences of my younger self. Through lyric and line I speak to the truths I have gathered. And those I'm still seeking.
With an unflinching lens, Rooted in Deepbone tracks how abuse lives in the landscape of the body, the crucible of the family, and woven into the culture of America.
