Abstract
Bombyx Mori is an exploration and exfoliation of the traditional Korean sijo form of poetry in the English language. It approaches the form and its use thereof investigatively, operating as a conscious appropriation of tradition from a place of cultural, national, and linguistic detachment. The space between--the space traversed--hosts a felt dissonance, but also a yearning.
This book functions as both a collection of individual poems and as a singular cohesive poetic unit, and is meant to be, structurally and thematically, a kind of macrocosmic sijo.
