Abstract

Singed Wing at the Edge of Sky is a collection of poems that explore the interplay between nature, language, and apocalypse. The English word "apocalypse" comes from the Greek apokálypsis, meaning to reveal or unveil. These poems attempt to see again, as if in remembrance, a state of both precarity and refuge prompted by transformation, personal and environmental. Using a range of forms, including prose, litanies & lists, mytho-poetic epic, and haibun, with forms inspired by haiku, renga, the ghazal, and qasida, the collection assumes an ecology of voices & registers. With language that is sometimes constrained and sometimes wild, Singed Wing at the Edge of Sky enacts an intimate conversation between its disparate parts so that recurring images & themes echo and resonate.
