This recording documents the second session of the China Symposium, held November 22-24, 1971. Robert Scalapino's lecture, "A China in crisis," preceded. In his remarks, Hinton discusses a recent trip that he made to the People's Republic of China during 1971 and the changes that had taken place since his last visit in 1953. A question and answer session follows.
