George McGovern, a U.S. Senator, was the Democratic nominee for President in the 1972 election. Senator McGovern had previously been a history professor at Dakota Wesleyan University and a U.S. Representative from South Dakota.
In his address, Senator McGovern expresses his thoughts on he direction that the United States should take in the 1970s, particularly with regard to the Vietnam War and the role of Congress in controlling U.S. military engagement.
Kay Corbett (PSU administrator), Robert Straub (former Oregon State Treasurer and future Governor of Oregon) and Blaine Whipple (real estate broker and Democratic activist in Portland, OR) also spoke.
