Original Description

The speakers in this forum discussion include Dr. Patrick Grant (Portland Public Schools), Linda Torrence (Staff Consultant, Red Cross), and community members in the audience. They discuss, among other subjects, the portrayal of Black men, women, and families in film and television, the representation of Blacks in public-facing and administrative positions in broadcasting, and discrimination problems faced by Blacks and women attempting to obtain employment in the mass media.

The four sessions of the "Minority and the Media" workshop explore in-depth the relationship of minorities to the media through discussion of its background, effectiveness, opportunities, impact, and strategies for improvement. Lecturers from local, regional, and national organizations and institutions lead each discussion section. The workshop was open to all interested persons free of charge.
