Rafferty, the author of a number of best-selling books on education such as "Suffer, Little Children" and "What They Are Doing to Your Children", served two terms as California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. Norman L. Anderson introduced Rafferty's lecture, which marked the 7th annual lectureship of the series.
