Biographical
Charles M. White joined the faculty at Portland State College in 1952 to teach English history and the history of Western civilization. He served as a student advisor, as Assistant to the Director of Social Science, and as the head of the History Department.
Dr. White directed the PSU Summer School and International Affairs Education Program from 1971 to 1989. His work on the Summer School catalogs at PSU and other colleges inspired the "Charlie Award" for best catalog, granted by the Western and North American Associations of Summer Schools.
Between 1951 and the early 1980s, Dr. White developed the Americanism Collection to document the increasing popularity of far-right movements in the United States. The Americanism Collection, now held in Portland State University Library Special Collections, contains literature and mailings from a variety of far-right and fundamentalist Christian organizations.
