Abstract
The objective of this project was to create caretaker-friendly guides for the at-home implementation of SLP instructions for use of thickeners appropriate to pediatric dysphagia patients, following a literature review on the same. The literature review centered on current infant-specific standards marking the utility of thickener types and highlights accessibility measures (e.g. regional availability) as factors of case-based appropriateness of use. Brief diagram-inclusive guides on the utility, accessibility, and administration of these thickeners, for use by caretakers of infants with dysphagia, have been created. The resultant guides will be written in English and in Spanish. Those written in Spanish will utilize culturally adept diction and language to more accurately convey the content than verbatim translation from English, to promote bilingual or monolingual Spanish-speaking caretaker implementation. Presentation will cover findings from the scoping literature review, the project's formulation and revision according to unanticipated findings, and the information concentrated into the caregiver guides themselves.
