Abstract
Cesar E. Chavez Blvd.: Uncovering Anti-Immigrant History in Oregon: Cynthia Gómez discusses the 2007 campaign to rename a Portland, Oregon street after the Mexican American civil rights leader and the fierce opposition it encountered. Gómez's 22-minute presentation, based on her Oregon Humanities article Process and Privilege, followed by a 35-minute conversation with a co-chair of the renaming committee, Oregon's Consul of Guatemala Marta Güembes. Gómez is a member of the Portland Art Museum Teacher Advisory Council. This video is part of the 2021 Memory and Public Space Educator Unconference.
