Say We Are Here: Digital Exhibit - The digital version of the Rutherford Family Collection exhibit, presented by Portland State University history students Marti Clemmons, Meg Langford, Jeanne Roedel, and Tasha Triplett; Professor Patricia A. Schechter; and PSU Library Special Collections
Collection DescriptionFrom September 26, 2012, to January 31, 2013, PSU Library’s Special Collections presented the exhibit, “‘Say We Are Here’: Culture, Community and Activism Across Four Generations of Black Oregonians,” featuring original materials from the Verdell A. Burdine and Otto G. Rutherford Family Collection.
The digital version of the “Say We Are Here” exhibit reflects the arrangement of the collection materials into the themes of “Family, Migration and Home,” “Building Community,” “Culture and the Community,” and “Activism.” The selected items represent just a fraction of the astonishing breadth of photographs, historical documents, and ephemera in the collection.
The videos presented here document speakers from the November 8, 2012 celebration event for the Rutherford Family Collection and the exhibit, as well as a group interview with students who worked with the collection materials in preparation of the exhibit in 2012.
