Abstract
Dave is an SEM Coach at Energy 350, where he works with industrial and agricultural operations to implement Strategic Energy Management (SEM). SEM focuses on short and long-term organizational change towards energy efficiency to keep energy costs down across the grid and to help mitigate climate change. Prior to his current job, Dave ran a consulting practice, Seed Pattern, LLC, helping organizations address sustainability goals and enhance their capacity to work together. He is also a longtime educator at Portland State University (PSU), teaching a range of courses with the Psychology Department, Systems Science Program, University Studies, Education Abroad, and the Center for Executive and Professional Education (CEPE). Dave earned a PhD in Systems Science: Psychology and a Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from PSU. As a Systems Psychologist, Dave’s interests and background span broadly across levels of analysis within psychology and across disciplines, including systems thinking, ecopsychology, perception, cognition, consciousness, neuroscience, sleep and dreams, group and organizational dynamics, collaboration, change processes and social movements, dialogue, concept mapping, the use and misuse of psychometrics, the interplay between human and ecological health, indigenous knowledge systems, permaculture and bioregionalism. Integrating these interests, he has largely invested his studies, advocacy, and professional work towards developing a deeper understanding of the concept of sustainability and practical strategies to embody such a concept.
