Abstract
College affordability is a challenge for many students in the United States, and textbooks are a large expense for many students. Librarians and faculty are collaborating to create open textbooks, openly-licensed, digital textbooks authored by faculty and available online for anyone in the world to download and use. These open textbooks, part of the movement for open educational resources (OER), are saving college students money, and research shows students in classes with OER do as well or better than students in classes with traditional textbooks.
